Tax Aid for Guernsey workers - The Employee's Tax Instalment (ETI) scheme
Employee's Tax Instalment (ETI) scheme is a method of paying Guernsey income tax - just like the PAYE system in UK. It concerns employed persons - your Guernsey employer deducts tax from your wages at source (before paying the wage) and sends it to the tax office. Those deductions may differ from your final annual tax liability, so any overpayment is reclaimable.
Your Coding Notice is issued by the local tax office and tells your employer how much tax they must deduct each week or month. NOTE: If you have not worked in Guernsey for a complete calendar year, you tax code does not work correctly so you have paid too much tax.
The Tax Deduction Form is similar to a P45/P60 - issued by your Guernsey employer, it states your income and tax paid for a given period. NOTE: Keep your payslips and/or Tax Deduction Forms as you may need them to claim a Guernsey refund.
Claiming a Guernsey tax refund can be done by completing a few tax forms and sending them to the tax office. NOTE: you must have the final payslip from your employer(s). To ensure you get the maximum possible refund and avoid mistakes and delays, we recommend that you use professional help.
